Happy Thanksgiving! (oh wait… that was a few weeks ago…)

Thanksgiving cupcakes

Busy busy busy. That’s all I can say as my excuse for not blogging in a month.

To add the my previous posts list, we were very close to the fires that devastated areas of North and East Orange County. We were even evacuated! Luckily our house got by unscathed. But we are reminded of how close it got every time we drive down the street.

I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving 2008

We visited family up north, the husbands family, my in-laws. It was nice to see them since we hadn’t been up there in 2 years. I was more excited to see our niece who just turned 4 in August. She was a bundle of energy. It was my mother-in-law’s birthday too so I made her a cake. It traveled from Anaheim to Antioch wrapped up and frozen to be assembled when we arrived. It was delicious!

I had two more big orders last week. One for a Christmas tree decorating party and the other for a 1st birthday. For the tree decorating party, I made Vanilla Mint cupcakes, Chocolate Gingerbread, Holiday Biscotti, Cranberry Trifle and a Giant Spice Cupcake topped with Coconut buttercream.

And then last weekend the 1st birthday party order. It included 4 dozen cupcakes and 1 giant cupcake. The 4 doz cupcakes were a combination of Queen of Hearts, AFBC, Tea Time, Groovy, Spring Break, A Kid Again and Smores. The giant cupcake was Smores – graham cracker cupcake filled with chocolate mousse and topped with marshmallow buttercream:

I made a fondant candle for the top but I gave that to the customer to add right before. I asked the customer for pictures of the cake and the birthday boy so I hope I get those.

I’m planning to add a new feature to my website where folks can sign up to be on my mailing list. One of my goals for 2009 is to start doing some email campaigns, monthly at the very least. I need to get business up before I start looking into renting a commercial kitchen. Right now I don’t bring in enough business to make that extra expense worthwhile. I’d really like to get into wedding and large event cupcakes. I’ve already received an inquiry for a wedding March next year. I have a few more goals to talk about but that is for another post.

Only 14 days until Christmas? Have you finished your shopping yet?
