I’ve been doing this business now for almost 7 yrs (wow really??) and I honestly would not be where I am now if not for social media. If you are a fellow small business owner, blogger, entrepreneur, I cannot stress how important it is to attend networking events. Especially ones that connect you face-to-face with the people who support you online. I attended an event called Girls Lunch Out Sunday at Maggianos in Costa Mesa.

Right before Thanksgiving, we launched a new look for Meringue Bake Shop online. We got rid of the heavy pink and blue look and have opted for something more natural. If you haven’t visited our site in a while, come on over, take a look and let me know what you think! Our new site has also been optimized for your smartphone, tablet and desktop.

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our birthday with us on April 7 at the Orange Home Grown Farmers Market. We had such great time and hope you did too! And a special thanks to Couture Paintings for coming out and painting lots of faces (and arms and legs) that day too. Including me!

Happy New Year! Thank you to all our customers, friends and cheerleaders in 2011. We hope that love for our desserts carries on in 2012.
More changes are coming too but I’ll save that for a later post. We are also introducing a NEW cake concept! Can’t wait to share it with you. It is sooo cool! And fun!! It makes birthdays and special events even more smashing!

We’ll be selling our fun Halloween cupcakes and pushcakes at the farmers market this year. It also marks the 1 yr anniversary of us being at the Great Park Farmers Market. I can’t believe it’s been a year already! My oh my how things have changed since our first market. Lots of ups and downs through out the year. But we’ve stuck through it. I’ll be honest and say that it isn’t what I thought it would be, that’s for sure. I thought that we’d be selling more than we’ve been. But we’ve profited in other ways and if you are a small business baker too, you have to consider those things as well. Success isn’t just how much money you make.

Fall is here! (maybe) and we are participating in quite a few events this season. So far we’ve been accepted into:
OC Chocolate Festival – Nov 4 & 5
This festival is all about eating chocolate and drinking wines and coffees. Are you in? You must buy a ticket to attend but that ticket includes lots of free samples. We are going to be preparing some special treats just for this event, stuff we haven’t done before. It’s going to be really fun! There are two types of ticket packages:
GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS are $25 and are good for admission to the O.C. Chocolate Festival on your choice of Friday orSaturday, when you will receive eight chocolate samplings and three wine tastings. General browsing, holiday gift shopping and entertainment are all included in the ticket price. Additional sampling tickets will be available at the event.
VIP PARTY TICKETS are for Friday night, Nov. 4, or Saturday night, Nov. 5. The nights require separate tickets. Anyone can purchase a ticket to this event. The party is in one of the separate expo rooms at the chocolate festival. Your ticket includes heavy hors d’oeurves, wine samplings, plenty of chocolate and live jazz. Great night to come with special friends. VIP tickets are $50 per person per night.
San Diego Holiday Hit List – Dec 4
The Holiday Hit List is an annual event that is organized and hosted by the San Diego North Park Craft Mafia. It is a holiday social and shopping experience – and it’s a FREE, all ages event. You can stop by, listen to some music, and get your holiday shopping done in one place! Doesn’t that sound great?
Free to attend!
Renegade LA Holiday Craft Fair – Dec 10 & 11
The 2nd Annual Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market in Los Angeles returns to Los Angeles State Park on December 10 + 11, from 10am – 5pm, to supply all your handmade holiday shopping needs! Always free-to-attend and featuring over 200 artists, shoppers are sure to find something for everybody on their lists or can craft a special gift themselves at one of our terrific hands-on crafting workshops! A handful of LA’s best independent food trucks will be on site serving up delicious dishes and our bar will have many holiday libations!

We are still waiting to hear back if we got into Patchwork Festival and we’ll report back when we (hopefully) do!

Whoow has it been busy! And hot. Holy smokes has it been hot. During the week, I am inside an office building all day with AC (day job). I only truly appreciated how hot it was when we were sitting outside at the Great Park Farmers Market all day on Sunday. Never have I been so happy to have an occasional breeze. And flowing ice tea from One Love Tea. Peach Ginger is my fav.
We’ve been really busy with PushCake orders lately. I attribute it to the summer. PushCakes are so easy to eat! They are great for movie theaters, pool parties and even time on the beach. You can leave them in your coolers and then take them out and nibble whenever you want a sweet. Then just cap the lid back on and save it for later. Water stays out of them, sand stays out of them. They are super cool. And fingers stay mess-free which is an added bonus! They also make a great fun addition for back-t0-school lunches. Help ease back into the new school year.
We are approaching our 1 year anniversary since we introduced PushCakes to the world and I think we are going to do a PRETTY AWESOME giveaway. Something open to the entire US. I am still working out all the details. But stayed tuned by liking our PushCakes and Meringue Bake Shop facebook pages. And remember, even though there are a lot of imitators out there right now in SoCal, if they don’t say PushCakes, they aren’t the original thing!

Yeah! Finally a new website. After two years of dealing with my quickly thrown together site, I bit the bullet and decided to spend some money on a new site.
I want to thank Steph Calvert of Hearts & Laserbeams for her awesome graphic design work. She came up with my new header, background image, cupcake social media icons, and an awesome surprise I am going to share with you all next week. Steph is so freakin fun to work with and her creativity is humbling.
And Resa Barillas for all her help getting this site launched. Resa has been an absolute dream to work with. Totally worked around my funky schedule and put up with my delays between updates. Very accommodating to my small budget, willing to work things out with me and always one step ahead of me – which I really needed.
If you need help with any design projects or need to convert your site from blogger to wordpress or want a new site altogether, please contact one of these fabulous ladies. You won’t be disappointed.
This post is going to be short cause I need to get back to tying up ends on my new site. Hope you like it! If you see anything that is “off”, please shoot me an email at email@example.com and let me know what and where.
